CALL NEWS

Some of this information was published previously:

Pastor Chris Johnson of Crosswalk, husband of Jamie Johnson, has accepted his call to serve at Mount Lebanon in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mrs. Johnson will serve the remainder of her year with us at ALA before moving to Wisconsin.

Dan Solofra, pastor at CrossWalk and husband of Taunya Solofra, has declined his call to Wisconsin.

Josh Stahmann, pastor at Salem in Scottsdale and husband of Lynnette Stahmann, has declined his call to Minnesota.

Mykenna Schneiter has received a call to Winnebago Lutheran Academy to teach upper level science.

Adam Wiechmann, our Assistant Principal for Academics and Science Department Chairman, has received a call to work with the One Africa team.

While details are still somewhat unclear, this position would connect him with a quickly increasing number of people across the continent seeking Christian guidance and instruction. It would include providing and preparing materials for these people and on a regular basis traveling to various countries to build on that foundation. He would join the members of the One Africa team and relocate to Lusaka, Zambia.

Please keep all who are deliberating calls and all the ministries involved in your prayers.

FAFSA

Parents of seniors – You’ve heard about the FAFSA and the fact that there are changes this year. You also know that the release of the FAFSA was delayed from the typical October 1 release date. Here is some current information:

What is the timeline for the FAFSA as of now?
The timeline that the Department of Education has stated is that they intend to make the FAFSA available for students by December 31. We will keep you posted as we get more information on the actual date. They have informed colleges that they will first release your submitted information to the colleges, by the end of January. That means you will likely start getting aid awards from colleges starting in February.

What can you be doing right now?
1) Create your FSA ID account here. Make sure you remember your username and password so you can access and submit the 2024-25 FAFSA when it's released in a few weeks.
2) You'll need to determine any "contributors" as the FAFSA defines it (typically a parent) and have them create a username and password as well. Go to this link to help you understand the definition of a "contributor" on the FAFSA.
3) FAFSA has published a series of videos that will help you and your student to prepare for filing. They are short watches and will help you to make sure you have everything you need when you go to file.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT

The Christmas Concert is coming up on Friday, December 15. Titled Unto Us a Child Is Born, the concert will feature Christmas songs, both classic and unfamiliar, that herald the birth of our Savior. There will be well-known titles, such as Angels We Have Heard on High, What Child Is This, Carol of the Drum, and Go Tell It on the Mountain, as well as new arrangements of hymns like Lo How a Rose E'er Blooming and O Come, O Come, Emmanuel. The concert will conclude with three pieces from Handel's Messiah, culminating in the Hallelujah Chorus. Audience members who wish to join the choirs on this last number are welcome to do so!

PSAT SCORES

Students who took the PSAT in October can now access their scores. Go to the College Board STUDENT SIGN IN PAGE and log in to his/her College Board account. No account? The student should create one using the same name and email that was used for the PSAT test. (Note: this is a student account, not a parent account.) All students who have an account must make sure their College Board account email links to their personal email, not school email. This is so students still have access to their account after graduation.

Once signed in, the student can find PSAT scores and also explore other things like careers, colleges, scholarships, and practice for a future SAT.

LOVE HOUSE KIDS COLLECTION

Dear ALA Family,

This winter Student Council is partnering with the Love House Kids Program to provide Christmas gifts to foster kids in group homes. Last year this went really well and we hope to have that kind of effect again this year! We are asking that students give generously to meet the needs of the students, and we invite parents, grandparents, alumni, anyone to help as well.

Here are some ways you can help...
  • Donate money to your/your child's homeroom teacher. This way the teacher can buy gifts on the foster kids' lists with that money.
  • Buy gifts on an Amazon list that the teacher created for your specific homeroom (please ask your homeroom teacher if this is an option).
  • Make it more personable by going out and buying the gifts on the kids' lists yourself (gifts not on the list are acceptable, but we put first priority on gifts the kids specifically want).
Any of these three options is a great way to help us give the foster kids joy on their Christmas day! In total, we are supporting 14 foster kids, one in each homeroom. The 14 kids we have range from newborn to 18, coming from pasts of abuse, relocation, and many other misfortunes. Any donations really help us go a long way to light up these children's worlds. We are grateful for all the gifts we have from our God and wish to use the community we have at ALA to pay forward those blessings to people who really need them. Thank you for your partnership in this activity.

Here's a link to the Love House website if you'd like to know more about their mission: https://www.lovehousekidsprogram.org/what-we-do.html)
