CALLS RECEIVED

Two of our teachers have received calls to serve at other schools:
  • Mr. Justin Ohm has received a call to serve as athletic director at Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School in New Ulm, Minnesota.
  • Pastor Brad Bode has received a call to serve as campus pastor and religion teacher at Hope Christian Academy (grades 6-12) in Westland, Michigan.

What is a Divine Call?
The Lord, through the church, calls people to serve in the public ministry.

The Call Process
When a school experiences a vacancy or needs to call another pastor or teacher, it requests a list of qualified candidates from the president of the WELS district in which the school is located. The district president will generally ask what the specific needs or challenges in the school are and will then send the school a list of somewhere between three and six or seven people who have the qualifications for the office in which the school wants the individual to serve. The Board of Directors then meets and prayerfully select one of the candidates to receive a call to serve in their midst and send the call with accompanying information to that individual.

When a pastor or teacher receives a call they must decide between the call they have in the congregation or school where they are currently serving and the call they have just received. They will look at the needs of both ministries and consider the particular gifts God has given them for serving in the ministry. They will prayerfully consider where with their particular gifts they can best serve the kingdom of God. They will also seek the advice of their brothers in the ministry, the district president(s), the people they serve, and the people who are calling them to serve.

With that, please consider reaching out to those who hold calls:
(1) Ask about the ministry where he/she is called
(2) Share your thoughts on what gifts you see in him/her
(3) Let the person know you are praying for him/her

You are also encouraged to pray for clarity in their decision-making as they consider where God would best have them serve.
