HOMECOMING DANCE 2023

The Student Council is planning a student dance on Saturday, October 7, to begin the wrap-up of Homecoming Week. Parents, please note the following points:

  • The dance begins at 7pm, and entrance to the dance will be open 7-7:30pm. Students will not be able to come and go; once at the dance, they will stay at the dance.
  • Tickets to the dance are $15/ person at the door. Cash and card will be accepted.
  • The dance ends at 10pm.
    • If parents are picking up after the dance, please be prompt.
    • If students are driving, they will leave the dance at 10pm. Parents, please know what your child's plans are after 10pm.
  • Students do not need to have a date to attend this dance. We encourage all students, grades 9-12, to come and have fun with their friends!
  • If your child wishes to bring a date from a different high school, your student need to speak with Mr. Romsdahl by 3pm on September 29th . This must be a date, not just any person from outside of ALA.
  • Music and dancing will be kept appropriate and in line with Christian values.
  • Dress code will be semi-formal and will adhere to our ALA Dress Code. See pages 17-20 of the Parent/Student Handbook.
    • Semi-formal means that guys wear a dress shirt and pants (no tie required) and girls may wear semi-formal dresses (no cleavage or midriff exposed, length or dress slit must be modest—according to the dance attire code on page 18)
    • Guests must also follow this dress code. You or your child will need to let the guest know about the dress code.
    • We do not wish to turn anyone away at the door. Parents, we thank you for your diligence in guiding your child's decisions about attire.
Student Council is looking forward to this culminating Homecoming event. If you have any questions, contact Mr. Romsdahl, Romsdahl@ALAcoyotes.org.

GRADUATION 2024 - REMINDER

Senior parents, it is time to order caps & gowns for graduation 2024. While tempting to put this off, it is in your best interest to get this done now so things go smoothly for graduation.

1. Go to this link to enter in proper measurements and information.
2. Go to this link to place your cap and gown orders.
3. Click on Graduation Products and then Graduation a la Carte to order only the cap & gown unit.
  • Note that this unit comes with the cap, the gown, and a tassel. There is no need to order an extra tassel.
  • We use rental gowns, custom-made for ALA. These gowns will be returned the day of graduation after the ceremony. The grad keeps the cap and tassel, but not the gown.
  • The gowns will come to ALA and will distributed after we take the class picture.
4. Due date - November 20
  • Why so early? Things go much more smoothly if we do things early, especially with thousands of high school graduations taking place at the same time each year.
There are many other graduation items that can be ordered: jewelry, stationery, shirts, and lots of 2023 swag. The only thing that every graduate is required to order is the cap, gown, tassel unit ($45). Your students will get a message in google classroom with the same information attached to a flyer. Please work together to make sure this is completed. If you have any questions, contact Miss Else at Else@ALAcoyotes.org.

FOOTBALL FRIDAY

Join us for the home football game on Friday, 9/22, as we take on San Pasqual!

_________________________________________

A note to our ALA family from Coach Peter:

We all have a responsibility to conduct ourselves in a respectful manner when attending ALA athletic contests so the game is enjoyable for all fans, officials, and participants.

The AIA and officials rate our coaches, players, and fans after each contest. This rating is based on a 5-point scale. Congrats to our volleyball coaches, players, and fans for a perfect rating.

However, we're not doing quite as well at football games. Football has an overall rating of 3.92, but our football fans are rated at 2.75. Let's improve that score on Friday night!

We ask that you be positive, loving, and respectful in your words and actions as you enjoy the privilege of watching all of our Coyotes.

YEARBOOK - SENIOR PHOTOS

Seniors and Senior parents:

1. Yearbook Recognition Ads are the perfect way to commemorate achievements and celebrate milestones. This year we are offering 1/8, 1/4, and 1/2 page recognition ads. See this attachment for more information!

2. Since many people opt to get professional photographs taken of seniors, we want to showcase them in our Yearbook. This is an FYI so you can start planning or picking out which photo you would like in the yearbook and in our Senior Spotlights on social media.

Schedule your senior photo shoot for one of our school breaks in Nov or Dec (preferred) or plan ahead for Jan - Mar. The Yearbook staff may also take a picture of your senior, but they reserve this as a last resort. Please keep in mind that when you are taking pictures, the submitted photo should be a high-quality, clear portrait and the students in the picture should be following the ALA dress code.

Please submit photos to Photos@alacoyotes.org with the subject "[Student name] Senior photo"

If you have questions, contact Miss Schneiter at Schneiter@ALAcoyotes.org

Thank you and have a wonderful day!

PARENTPULSE

ALA, we seek to constantly evaluate our school from multiple perspectives, all in an effort to make this an even better place for your child and your family.

Because the parent perspective is so important to us, we've partnered with ParentPulse, a company that specializes in collecting feedback for Christian schools.

Each parent in our school will be invited every few months to respond to a short survey. These surveys will be staggered – parents will receive the invitations via e-mail or text at different times (and a separate survey invitation will be sent for each child).

We simply ask that you'd take five minutes to complete the survey. Many schools only send one (longer) survey each year, but we want to capture your thoughts and feelings in shorter surveys – and at multiple points over the year – so we can understand how things are evolving and how we can best adapt!

So, please be on the lookout for an e-mail or text from ParentPulse. The subject line will clearly identify Arizona Lutheran Academy.

The information you provide is collected solely for our analysis, and your personal contact information will not be used or shared by ParentPulse. There is also an option at the end of the survey to submit your responses anonymously.

Thank you for partnering with us in Christian education!

LEARNING BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

ALA is excited to kick-off the second year of our partnership with Kingdom Workers. We are a host site for their Build Up program.

What is the Build Up program? The purpose of the Build Up program is to connect high school students with Christian men and women who work (or have worked) in various trades jobs. The adults teach, train, & mentor students in carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing and more through hands-on projects. Opportunities exist to encourage and build up teens in their faith as well.

Mr. Roger Wendt and his team of 13 adult mentors have some exciting plans for the new school year. With the assistance of ALA students, they plan to build a temporary structure which will serve as a workplace and storage area for their tools. Additional plans would engage ALA students in putting their newly acquired skills into practice by helping needy or elderly homeowners with minor repairs or improvements to their homes.

Thanks to the generous people who love Jesus and the Build Up program, there is no cost for your teen to participate! Watch this short video to hear what some of our students had to say about the program.

Our first Build Up day is scheduled for Saturday, September 23. We will meet on campus beginning at 8 am and end around noon. Please arrive shortly before 8.

If your son or daughter is interested in participating in Build Up, please complete the following steps.

1. Email Mr. Priebe (Priebe@ALAcoyotes.org) to let him know that your son or daughter plans on participating on September 23.

2. If your teen is new to Build Up, click HERE to complete the waiver.

THE GALA TEAM WANTS YOU!

The Gala has been coined as "the event of the year." It's an evening fundraiser, auction, and dinner, with support from many, many people — set for Friday, March 22, 2024. At past Galas, we've raised funds for the Den, new vans, the marquee, locker rooms, bleachers, shade canopy, and more. It's an incredible blessing to our students!

Have you ever attended? Got ideas to make the Gala even better? Are you creative? Do you love parties? Do you love planning parties? If you answered yes to any of these, you would be a fantastic asset to the 2024 Gala Planning Team. We're looking for at least 10 more people to join, and joining the team is a great way to get to know new people.

Insider tip: our theme has western flair to it this year, but we're not revealing the title... yet.

Our first official meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept 12 from 6-7pm in the ALA office.
  • We keep the meetings to one hour
  • We meet once each month from Sept- March. (So that's only 7 meetings.)
  • We also offer a virtual meeting option, so if you live out of town or can't get to ALA on a weeknight, you can still join the team.

Interested? Sign up here.

COUNSELING AVAILABLE

Schools around the country are seeing more mental health related challenges in students. Our teens need our support at this critical time. Parents, teachers, and school counselors need to work together to help kids who struggle with stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and behavioral issues stemming from underlying mental health conditions.

Through a partnership with ALA, Christian Family Solutions (CFS) has a counselor on site to help students who may be exhibiting symptoms of anxiety, depression, attention deficit, impulse control, or a variety of other mental health and behavioral issues. CFS combines the unconditional love of Jesus with effective counseling strategies. Students who have accessed counseling services in the past have been able to become more focused, resilient, and ready to learn. Most of all, they are reassured that they are dearly loved children of God, no matter what their challenges or circumstances.

The services of Christian Family Solutions are clinical mental health services. Starting next Wednesday, we are going to be conducting ten-minute informal check-ins with the freshmen and other students who are new to ALA this year (including international students). These check-ins will occur during your teen’s study hall and begin on September 13. If you have any questions or concerns please contact ALA’s referring agent, Mr. Ben Priebe. (Priebe@ALAcoyotes.org)

We love the teens of Arizona Lutheran Academy (ALA). We are blessed by this partnership, and by the relationships we build with the teens we serve. We pray that we can be a supportive resource to them and to you as well.

Warm regards,

Naomi R. Ruppel MA (AZ), (CA), LMFT

SOCCER DECISION

Unfortunately, we informed the AIA this morning that we will not be fielding a soccer team this winter. We did not have enough interest to field a team. Although this may seem early in the school year to make this decision, all attempts to find more willing participants were exhausted. Also, it is crucial to inform our opponents with enough time for them to find teams to replace us on their schedule.
