THANK YOU

We would like to share the following note from Craig and Linda Kiecker.

Dear Friends at ALA,

Our family wants to say thank you to everyone in the ALA family for their many prayers and words of encouragement since we learned of Linda’s pancreatic cancer diagnosis. We especially want to say THANKS to the baseball players and coaches, the team moms, and all the ALA parents, students and supporters at ALA’s senior night baseball game. We are so appreciative of the generosity shown to us through your gifts. We are confident that the Lord will continue to guide us in the weeks and months ahead as Linda continues her treatment. The Lord declares, “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Your friends in Christ,

Linda & Craig Kiecker

PROM PHOTOS

The Irish Cultural Center is a very picturesque place and we can't wait to see prom photos. Students and parents are invited to send your best prom photos to Photos@ALAcoyotes.org to have the chance to be featured in the yearbook or a prom video reel.

AWARDS DAY REPORT

Seniors or their parents are asked to complete this report so that we will have accurate information for our May awards day, which will take place on Tuesday, May 14. We rely on information from students and parents since many colleges do not share this information.

Note that we will not share need-based awards such as PELL grants. We are looking for merit scholarships & awards based on your scholastic record, tests, volunteer involvement, athletic or fine arts involvement, and so forth.

There are three sections to the report. You might use only one section, but please consider all three as you complete it. Be as specific as possible (include name of scholarship, amount, renewable?, etc.)
  1. School Scholarships & Awards - Share everything offered—even from schools not attending
  2. Scholarships/Awards from other entities - private organizations, parents' or student's work, your church, etc.
  3. Special awards or recognition - non-monetary awards like acceptance to a special program, honors college, apprenticeship, internship, etc.

DUE DATE: TUESDAY, MAY 6, 2024

PROM IN THE ENCHANTED FOREST

Date: April 20, 2024
Time: 7-10 pm
Location: Irish Cultural Center 1106 N Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85004

The junior class will be honoring the senior class at the annual Prom this Saturday, April, 20th at the Irish Cultural Center in downtown Phoenix. This year our theme is Prom in the Enchanted Forest. A variety of appetizers and themed beverages will be included, as well as a professional DJ, and professional photography. The venue features both indoor and outdoor spaces. The dance floor is outside, so we have advised students to plan to wear shoes on the dance floor as other events may have broken glass or caused other debris to pose a threat to bare feet.

Many thanks to our Junior advisors and Junior Prom planning committee for hosting this event! Each year, a new team of students and faculty members plan Prom—not an easy undertaking!

Please note:
  • Parking at the Center is limited. Additional parking can be found near the Japanese Friendship Garden.
  • Plan to arrive before 7:30 as the voting and ticket-takers will be packed up at that time. Prom Dress code is found beginning on page 18-19 of our Student Handbook
  • Contact Junior advisor, Jade Wells at jwells@alacoyotes.org with any questions.
  • Prom ends at 10pm

On occasion, students and parents plan additional activities after the Prom. In order for this event to be a positive memory for all involved, please consider the following proactive suggestions:
  • Do not allow rental of hotel/motel rooms in connection with the prom activities.
  • Know your child’s planned activities and follow up accordingly.
  • Maintain clear communication with the hosts of any post-prom party. Know where, when, how long, who the chaperones are, etc.
  • Communicate with your child and other parents regarding this important issue.

This prom is intended to be an enjoyable event for all involved. The stark reality, however, is that our ALA students are not immune from the devil’s tactics. Please talk with your son or daughter openly about these temptations.

Prom dress code is a reflection of who we are— redeemed children of God who seek to glorify him in everything that we do.

Prom/Dance Attire (Dress Code from 2023-2024 Parent/Student Handbook, page 18-19).
The following standards will be adhered to at events where formal wear is worn. Girls must wear attire that is modest and that meet the following criteria:

  • Girls must adhere to the following criteria:
    • Girls’ clothing must not expose cleavage. No midriffs can be exposed. Covering these areas with lace, netting, or other see-through material is not acceptable.
    • The length of the dress or the slit on the dress may be no more than 4 inches above the knees.
    • Dresses and other outfits must not be entirely backless and may have no plunging V’s or keyholes.
    • Strapless dress with sweetheart or straight-across necklines are acceptable—no keyholes or plunging V’s.
  • Boys must adhere to the following criteria:
    • A tuxedo, a dress suit, or a blazer with dress slacks. – OR
    • A long-sleeved dress shirt with dress slacks; a tie is optional.
    • A selection of athletic shorts and T-shirts will be available for students not in compliance with the above statements.
    • Pajama-type clothing, including slippers, are not permitted.
Students and guests not in compliance with the dress code must be able to remedy the problem immediately. If a student is unwilling or unable to comply, parents will be contacted and the student will be dismissed from the dance. Attendance by a freshman or sophomore student is permitted only when invited as a date by a junior or senior and with parental consent. Attendance by a guest from another school is acceptable only if Mrs. Wells or Mr. Groth has been spoken to beforehand.

Thank you for your cooperation. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or comments.

WELS YOUTH NIGHT PHOENIX

Since the advent of the internet, social media, and smartphones, anxiety, self-harm ideation, and depression have been on the rise among teenagers. While on the internet, teens have been confronted with challenges of many kinds. Are they ready to stand firm during these times? At WELS Youth Night Phoenix, we will help the teens confront the challenges of navigating through current technology as a Christian. On Saturday, May 4, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., we will have our next WELS Youth Night. It will take place at Calvary Lutheran Church (1270 N Dobson Rd, Chandler, AZ 85224). With icebreaker activities, fun games, and spiritual growth opportunities, WELS Youth Night Phoenix is a great opportunity for high schoolers throughout the Valley. GALA -- OUR THANKS

From the moment we pulled on our boots to the end of the evening when we hung up our hats, the Boots & Bling Gala was an enormous success! Thanks to all of you, over $95,000 was raised for current and future campus improvements.

Thank you for your involvement -- as a donor, volunteer, planning team member, guest, or for lifting the event and our students in prayer! To God be the glory!

Take the Gala survey.

View photos taken by our students.

We sent an email recap on Saturday. If you missed it, you can read it here. (You can also subscribe to our Coyote-E-News at that link.)

SUMMER MISSION TRIP OPPORTUNITIES

Each summer our students are given opportunities to use their gifts through mission trips. Most of these trips are within the US, but last year we added an international trip through Jenni Petersen (ALA teacher last year). This year we have two potential international opportunities. If you would like more information, please contact Pastor Bode (Bode@ALAcoyotes.org) soon. Descriptions of these trips are listed below. In addition to several students, one adult would be needed for each trip.

June 20-July 2 (dates are subject to change slightly)
Zwickau, Germany - Kinderbiblewoche
Join with St. John's church and the children of Dr. Martin Luther School for a Children's Bible Week. Students will take part in a three hour morning program with the congregation involving Bible stories, skits, and activities. Following the morning program, students will lead two hours of optional activities for children attending the Bible Week. On Thursday, students will take part in a Bible Study, telling a little about ALA as well as sharing what has been happening during Bible Week. Students will stay with host families and have the opportunity to spend time exploring Saxony and Berlin.
Estimated costs:
- Airfare: $1200-1500
- Transportation + Food + Entrance Fees: $250

Many ALA families rely on scholarships awarded from School Tuition Organizations (STOs) like ACSTO, School Choice Arizona, Arizona Leadership Foundation to name a few. The organization that oversees all STOs is called Arizona School Tuition Organizations Association (ASTOA). ASTOA created a website to share information about School Choice/Educational Freedom in Arizona and efforts to maintain it in our state. You can visit the website below to learn more information.
