GALA DONATION IDEA — HOST A PARTY!

Would you be willing to host a “Sign Me Up” event and donate it to the 2024 Gala & auction?

What is a “Sign Me Up” Event or Party?

These are events that parents, or a group of adults or students, agree to host for as many people as they find appropriate for the specific activity/party. Attendees can be adults, kids, or a combination of the two. The hosts cover all expenses of the party, and 100% of the funds raised by the event benefit our school. Prices can range depending on the event, with most adult parties falling in the $30-$80 per person range and most kid parties in the $20-$40 range.

Why Are “Sign Me Up” Events & Parties Important to our auction?

Sign Me Up Parties are a fun addition to the auction. They are fun, quite popular, and a great opportunity for community building! Whether you host a party or just sign up to attend one, you are sure to have a fabulous time mixing and mingling with other ALA families.

In the past, we've hosted two of these types of parties: a Craft Crawl (for adults) and a Opening Day trip to see the latest Avenger movie (for students). Both were well-received!

A Few “Sign Me Up” Party & Event Ideas:

For the Family: D’Backs Tailgate Party (pre-game), Family Kickball Game, Parent/Child Cooking Class, Mother/Daughter Tea Party, Family Game Night, Adult & Kid Bowling, Amazing Race Adventure, Parent/Kid Dodgeball Game, Outdoor Movie and S'mores Night, Scavenger Hunt, Cake Pop Workshop

For the Parents:
Neighborhood Wine Walk, Cornhole Tournament, Cinco De Mayo celebration, Chili Cookoff, Costume Party, Mom’s Morning Hike & Brunch, Themed Dinner Party, Kentucky Derby Party, Bunco, College Throwback Party, Scotch & Steaks, Bakery & Wine Tasting (we have a free wine tasting for 20 voucher at Total Wine& More that someone could use)

Here’s how:
  1. Plan any type of party, activity or get-together for any number of adults, families or kids in the ALA community.
  2. Recruit your friends as co-hosts – it makes throwing the party much easier, cost-effective and a lot more fun!
  3. Check in with the auction team as soon as possible to discuss your idea/s and timing.
  4. Plan (with your co-hosts) to cover all of the costs of the party as a contribution to the Gala & auction.
  5. Finalize your basic party info: how many guests, where/when, etc. and fill out info online thru the Sign Me Up Host Form.
  6. We’ll auction off admission to your party during the online auction and any remaining available spots during the Gala on March 22. All proceeds will go to support ALA!
  7. Throw your party… meet some people, have a blast!

Be creative! Have fun! Ready to host? Complete this form.

100 K RUN TO FUND

Two senior boys, Jack List and Andrew Hartzell, are running in the Black Canyon Ultra Marathon; a 100 kilometer race that starts at Mayer High School in Spring Valley, AZ and ends at Emery Henderson Trailhead in Phoenix, AZ. The race starts at 8am on Feb 10 and the two boys will have 20 hours to complete this 100K trek. They have volunteered to use this as an opportunity for the seniors to raise money for their class trip. Each senior has been given a “pledge sheet” to record pledges for a certain amount “per kilometer” finished by either Jack or Andrew and tasked with recording these pledges and turning in their pledge sheet before the race. After the race on Sunday, Feb 11, those who pledged money will receive an email with the final amount due and instructions on how to make payment. Every cent raised will go towards the senior class trip. If you have any questions, you may speak to any senior student or contact Mr. Aleisa at Aleisa@ALAcoyotes.org.

2. Label your item/s somehow with your name?

STAY UPDATED ON SCHEDULE CHANGES

You can also use the megaphone 📣 at the top of the page to "subscribe," which allows you to add the ALA calendar to your Google calendar or other ical.

CURIOUS ABOUT THE ALA HOUSING PROGRAM?

We continue to praise God for the 46 out-of-town students who are able to attend ALA this year due to the generosity of our host families! (That's 20% of our student body!!)

ALA is in the height of enrollment season for the class of 2028. Each new class brings with it a variety of students from outside the Phoenix area. Additionally, each year some students need a replacement host as their current home may be choosing to exit the housing program due to their child graduating, etc. SO, even though it seems early to be thinking about the NEXT school year, it is time to begin looking for host families for the 2024-2025 school year! Are you able to help an out of town student attend ALA? Do you have a spare bed and an extra seat in your carpool? Read general hosting info here: https://alacoyotes.org/support/hosting/

Curious? Slightly interested? Have just a hint of interest in your mind, or a question you'd like to ask about hosting? Please take a moment to fill in this form.

IF YOU ARE A CURRENT HOST, please fill in this 30 second form.

GALA STUDENT COMPETITION

You are invited to participate in the 2024 Gala! Your child will likely want you to help with the Gala because he/she is motivated by the prizes, but your participation is so much more than that.

You see, the goal for the Gala is to raise over $60,000 to support our students by funding new building furnishings.

Our most recent Galas have raised funds to upgrade our signage, purchase new stage lights, gym bleachers, new chairs, and new lockers, renovate our locker rooms, purchase two Ford Transit vans, a new digital marquee, and a 2200 sq. foot shade canopy.

Your donation will make a visible difference on our campus, well into the future.

STEP 1: Choose a way to get involved.
A. Donate items for our auction.
Idea List >
Amazon Wish List >
Pinterest board: DIY project ideas >

B. Donate cash to an auction basket.

C. Ask your employer to donate to the auction or sponsor the event.*
Print sponsor info to give to your employer. You'd be surprised! Many employers will give towards a charity their employee supports! (This costs you nothing but can make a huge difference!)

D. Ask a business near you to donate.*
Print a letter & give to a local business. This is especially effective at businesses you visit often. Try Sam's Club, your hairdresser, nail salon, family owned shops and restaurants near your home. (This costs you nothing but can make a huge difference!)

STEP 2: Send donation to the office

A. Fill out a donation form (available in office or download paper form or use the online form)

B. Send your donation with donation form to the ALA office no later than March 8.

C. Class treasurers will tally the total $ of their class’s donations.

CLASS PRIZES: Freshmen vs. Sophomores vs. Juniors vs. Seniors

1st place (the highest $ value of donations): On Student Service Day (March 21) the winning class will have the afternoon OFF from cleaning projects, with free lunch, games, plus ice cream!

2nd place: The class who finishes in second place will receive ice cream on Student Service Day. PLUS you will get to choose your afternoon Student Service Day job. That means you won’t get assigned a job—you get to pick the job you want for the afternoon.

Competition ends: March 8 at noon

* these are ways to help that cost you nothing — except time!

Print the flyer, shown below.

FOOD DRIVE COMPETITION

ALA’s chapter of the National Honor Society has been collecting non-perishable food items for St. Mary’s Food Bank and has extended the drive through this Friday. Students should bring food items to their homeroom to be counted in the homeroom competition. All items must be brought to school no later than Friday homeroom.

LUNCH TIPS

Let's talk about some lunch tips!

  • Night-Before Magic: Make sure your student is making their lunch the night before. Their morning self will thank them and they will learn good time-management skills.
  • Snacks: Packing snacks like fruit, nuts, chips or yogurt is a great way to give them little bursts of energy throughout their day.
  • Hot Lunch Program: You can pre-order lunch for your kid all throughout the second semester by signing up with My Hot Lunchbox. On Tuesday Panda Express gets delivered; on Thursday Jimmy Johns brings lunch. This is an easy and effective way to ensure lunch and skip the hassle!
  • Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate: Don't forget to have your student pack a water bottle. Hydration is the key to staying healthy and focused throughout the day.
  • Silverware: Please make sure students are bringing silverware with them as they pack their lunch.
What to do if my student forgot a lunch? It is a good idea to always keep $5 or $10 as back up in case lunch was forgotten. We have a vending machine in the lobby with many options!

EMERGENCY CONTACT INFORMATION

Hey there, parents! It's that time of year again - time to update your information. We need updated addresses, emails, phone numbers, and emergency contact information. Why is this so important?

  1. Emergency Situations: The school needs to reach you quickly if there is a situation without delay. This ensures we have all our bases covered.
  2. Updates and Announcements: We often send out important updates you will want to know about. If your contact information is outdated, you might miss out on these crucial bits of information.
  3. Involvement: We often organize events or have volunteer opportunities where your involvement is encouraged. It is a great way to stay up to date with such events.
So, take a few minutes to update your information with us! You can email info@ALAcoyotes.org if you have any changes. You can also call 602-268-8686 ext. 112.

RESOURCES

Here is a quick reminder of where you can find resources!

  1. Your first stop should be the school website. This is a treasure trove of information where you can find calendars, handbooks, school policies, and more. Visit ALAcoyotes.org and look for "Resources."
  2. This blog is your personal newspaper to keep up with events, updates, and resources. Don't forget to check the blog daily (available right here in this email everyday at 4pm). If your child or spouse would like to sign up, please visit the resources on our website and look under Parent Communication and Involvement.
  3. We have many ways to stay in touch! Visit our Facebook page to look at photos of events, sports, and more!
Remember, the school is a partner in your child's education. If you have any questions please reach out to info@ALAcoyotes.org. Do not be afraid to get involved in your child's education!

MAP TESTS for GRADES 9, 10 & 11

All students in grades 9, 10 & 11 will be taking MAP tests on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 9 & 10.

Please note the following:
  • Each student will take a math, a reading, and a language test.
  • Each student must bring his/her FULLY CHARGED Chromebook for testing.
  • Seniors will not take these tests. They will attend their usual classes following special schedules.
    • The school day will still run from 8am to 3pm.
    • Class periods will be about double length so tests can be completed during the longer period (we call this a Block Schedule).
    • Tuesday will be periods E, F, G & H. Wednesday will be A, B, C & D.
    • Students will be informed when they will take each test. Not every period will be a test period; some may be the usual class or study hall for that period.
  • Any missed tests must be made up during the student's study hall or free time. Please try to make sure your child is in attendance and not running late or leaving school early.
