FAFSA

Parents of seniors – You’ve heard about the FAFSA and the fact that there are changes this year. You also know that the release of the FAFSA was delayed from the typical October 1 release date. Here is some current information:

What is the timeline for the FAFSA as of now?
The timeline that the Department of Education has stated is that they intend to make the FAFSA available for students by December 31. We will keep you posted as we get more information on the actual date. They have informed colleges that they will first release your submitted information to the colleges, by the end of January. That means you will likely start getting aid awards from colleges starting in February.

What can you be doing right now?
1) Create your FSA ID account here. Make sure you remember your username and password so you can access and submit the 2024-25 FAFSA when it's released in a few weeks.
2) You'll need to determine any "contributors" as the FAFSA defines it (typically a parent) and have them create a username and password as well. Go to this link to help you understand the definition of a "contributor" on the FAFSA.
3) FAFSA has published a series of videos that will help you and your student to prepare for filing. They are short watches and will help you to make sure you have everything you need when you go to file.
